We already know that electric scooters are very economical and do not produce exhaust fumes. However, how does this translate into electricity costs in everyday use? Are electric scooters really much more economical than combustion scooters? In this article, we will answer this question. We will use approximate data from December 2022, which shows that in Germany the cost of electricity was about 260 euros per 1 Mwh (one-megawatt hour). To calculate the cost of 1 Kwh (one-kilowatt hour), divide the above amount by 1000. (260 / 1000 = 0.26euro).

An electric scooter with a 2000W motor needs an average of 30Wh (watt-hours) to travel one kilometer, which gives 3Kwh per 100km. If the cost of energy for 1Kwh is 0.26 euros, 3Kwh will be equal to 0.78 euros. A petrol scooter with similar power needs about 3 liters of petrol to travel 100 km.

The cost of fuel in Germany in December 2022 was around 1.7 euros per liter. Driving 100 km is an expense of 5.1 euros. Comparing both vehicles, you can clearly see the difference in savings in favor of the electric scooter. In everyday use, we can observe up to eight times lower costs.
